Our Story

Well, here goes...As many of you may know, Brian and I have decided to adopt! I was fortunate enough to meet another Reece's Rainbow family earlier this school year and it truly changed my life. After getting on their blog to read their adoption story, I clicked a link to Reece's Rainbow and I was immediately in love. I started looking at all of the children waiting for homes and began daydreaming of what it would be like to have one of our own. I am a special education teacher and I have been personally touched by the lives of many children with down syndrome and the thought of having one as a part of my family brought me unexplainable joy. So I casually asked my husband for $25,000 to which he laughed and said "Sure babe, let me pull it out of my back pocket". Well, joking turned to serious discussion and prayerful consideration and weeks later, he said yes!

I just knew I wanted a little girl, but the more I looked, the more I kept going back to Quinton. No little girl? Nope, not this time. God must have known that Quinton needed us and we needed him as well. We are now on a mission to rescue our baby boy. You see, he was born in Eastern Europe where people with disabilities are not accepted in society. They are sent to baby houses at birth and somewhere between age 4 and 6, they are sent to institutions where they are severely mistreated (and that is putting it mildly) and most die within a few years. They are underfed, ignored, and often tied to their cribs. While we know that we cannot rescue them all, we can rescue Quinton. So, how does a police officer and a special education teacher afford $25,000? We rely on our faith. We believe that the three of us are truly a match made in heaven, hence the name of the blog.
